Done! Completed! Finished!
Have you noticed the tense of some of the verbs in Ephesians 1:14? “[W]ho [the Holy Spirit] is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory,” NKJV. I am thinking especially of the word “purchased.” The Lord Jesus Christ purchased our redemption on the cross. In His own words, “It is finished!” John 19:30. This Greek word tetelestai, denotes “paid in full.” I cannot work towards, nor earn, my salvation and I don’t need to! Jesus did it all! The work alone is His and He completed it to the Father’s complete satisfaction. Colossians 2:13-14 “And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He [Jesus] has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” For now, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in our hearts and this assures our hearts that our salvation is accomplished, Jesus did rise from the dead, and one day He’s coming back, to the praise of His glory. Even so, come Lord Jesus!
